Annotating Photos

Last updated February 10, 2025

Photo annotations let you highlight specific details, point out issues, or add context directly on your images. Annotations are saved with the photo and appear in reports.

Annotation Tools

Open any photo in the full-screen viewer and tap Annotate to access the toolbar. You have four tools:

Drawing Tool

Freehand drawing for circling areas, underlining details, or sketching quick diagrams. Draw with your finger or stylus directly on the photo.

Arrow Tool

Tap and drag to create an arrow pointing to a specific feature. Arrows are great for callouts like “crack here” or “install location.” You can:

  • Drag either end to reposition
  • Resize by pulling the arrow longer or shorter

Text Tool

Add text labels anywhere on the photo. After placing text, you can:

  • Edit the content by tapping on it
  • Drag to reposition
  • Rotate with a two-finger gesture
  • Text automatically snaps to horizontal or vertical when close

Stamp Tools

Two stamp options are available:

  • Timestamp stamp — Adds the current date and time to the photo
  • Location stamp — Adds GPS coordinates to the photo

Color Picker

All drawing and arrow annotations use the selected color. Tap the color swatch in the toolbar to open the palette with 40+ color options. Choose high-contrast colors that stand out against your photo background.

Undo and Redo

Made a mistake? Use the undo button to step back, or redo to restore an undone action. This works across all annotation types.

Saving Annotations

Annotations save automatically when you leave the annotation mode. You can also toggle annotation visibility on and off when viewing the photo, so you can always see the original image underneath.

Annotations in Reports

When you add an annotated photo to a report, the annotations are included. This makes it easy to create reports that clearly point out progress, issues, or completed work without needing separate explanations.
