Taking Photos and Videos with the Mobile Camera
Last updated February 12, 2025
The Fieldpost camera is designed for fast, organized documentation. Every photo you take is automatically linked to a project, tagged with GPS and timestamp data, and uploaded to the cloud.
Opening the Camera
Tap the camera icon in the bottom navigation bar. Before you shoot, you’ll want to set two things:
- Select a project — Use the dropdown at the top of the camera screen to choose which project this photo belongs to. If you only have one project, it’s selected automatically.
- Select a category (optional) — If your project has categories set up, you can pick one before shooting. This saves time compared to categorizing later.
Taking Photos
Tap the shutter button to take a photo. Fieldpost uses a session mode, which means you can take multiple photos in a row without leaving the camera:
- Each photo you take appears in a session tray at the bottom of the screen
- A counter shows how many photos you’ve taken in this session
- You can tap any photo in the tray to review it, or swipe to delete
- When you’re done, tap Done to upload all photos at once
Camera Controls
- Flash — Toggle between off, on, and auto (photo mode only)
- Flip camera — Switch between front and rear cameras
- Settings — Tap the gear icon to access camera settings like grid overlay and stamp options
Recording Videos
Switch to video mode by tapping the video toggle next to the shutter button. Press and hold the shutter to record, then release to stop. Videos are uploaded in the background just like photos.
Video recordings include:
- Duration tracking
- Automatic thumbnail generation
- GPS location data
- Category assignment
What Happens After Upload
Once you tap Done or navigate away from the camera, your photos and videos are uploaded to the project. If you’re offline, they’re queued and will sync automatically when you’re back online.
Each uploaded item gets:
- A GPS location stamp (if enabled)
- A timestamp
- The category you selected
- Association with the chosen project
You can view everything in the project’s Media tab, where items are organized by category with the newest first.
